About

Born 1994, Northamptonshire, England. Lives and works in the UK.

Harley Herbert

To summarise his work, it has been said that Harley's artwork is altogether a kaleidoscope of life, in ways both literally due to how a lot of his work incorporates the use of light in ways reminiscent of a child's kaleidoscope, and metaphorically with the subject of his work often being based around the lives and experiences of humans, their minds and their perception of world around them. He primarily draws upon his own life experiences and mental health though he also will take influence from others.

As an artist he originally started out primarily as a photographer, though this soon changed during his studies at university, where he spent his time exploring new ways in which to produce his art, resulting in his adoption and use of varied art media in his work.

Harley works in a manner that has been described as akin to a "mad scientist" by peers, due his heavy use of experimentation, the enthusiasm he often has for this experimental work, and the way that seemingly odd or unusual ideas tend to be the ones he's most interested in. Such ideas and experiments often seem strange or crazy to people and sometimes even himself, but they often lead to good results. Harley views art as being closely related to science, due to the way in which artists take their skills and knowledge and experiment with them to see what they can make from it, to learn what happens and to then use that knowledge and their results to fuel further creation.
